Pigs can also create an amazing source of income for vulnerable families who raise them for eventual breeding and sale. Mother leaders will often gift their first piglet offspring to another family, impacting an entire community.
HOW PIGS IMPACT A FAMILY
47-year-old Laech Phoeun fled with her husband and four children to a small village in Cambodia; they didn’t own any property and were struggling. When FH began working in her community, they provided Laech with a pig and trained her in new agriculture techniques that helped her raise and sell 10 new pigs in four months. Before, she was unable to keep her piglets alive. Now her family earns double the income!
This year, piglets will be distributed to communities in Burundi & Uganda.
